RAJUMA BEY
Brief Biography
Rajuma Bey (b. 2003) was born in Waterbury, Connecticut and has lived in Charlotte, North Carolina for 11 years. He is quickly gaining a reputation beyond Charlotte for pushing the boundaries of art with his
avant garde approach. Bey draws inspiration for his work from his upbringing in an Afrocentric household. His paintings often confront themes of racial stereotypes, cultural taboos, and black representation in the media, with his thought-provoking imagery.
Bey fuses street art, cultural references, and social commentary into his works, as a way to capture the dynamic energy of Black American city life and he often employs chaotic markings and bold caricatures. Rajuma aims to continue to elevate his practice to reflect his perspective and experience as a African-American man living in the United States during the 21st century.
